DAAD has been tasked with designing a new creative campus north of Downtown along the Cumberland River that will offer affordable studio, manufacturing, and office space for the city’s creative community. The twenty two acre parcel is a former landfill site with a significant cross slope away from the river into the flood plane. Our design and consultant team’s goal is to re-purpose the site into a place that will elevate the design and fabrication culture that is already thriving in Nashville. We worked with the client to establish a program that offers their future tenants places to research, design, and fabricate their products as well as small scale galleries & retail shops and a large scale event venue for them to launch their products into the local, regional, national, or International communities. The program is spread among four cross laminated- timber (CLT) buildings that literally provide a framework for business growth. The studios range in scale from 250 square feet to 2000 square feet allowing tenants to grow on site rather than being displaced just when their companies are thriving.
