John Abernathy
Partner
Since a very young age, John Abernathy has always known he would be an architect, and very early in his professional education he decided to specialize in housing. Having the ability to create quality homes - a place where people live their lives and build their memories - is truly his passion. After graduating from The McCallie School and the University of Tennessee College of Architecture, John received a Master's Degree from Syracuse University. True to his vision of becoming a residential architect, he selected Syracuse because they offered a unique concentration in Urban Housing.
After relocating to Nashville in 1995, John worked for a variety of firms, assuming positions of increasing responsibility ranging from single-family residences to dormitories to country clubs before stepping out on his own in 1999 as a sole practitioner.
John also served on the Affordable Housing Task force for Franklin Tomorrow, a non-profit agency dedicated to the future of Williamson County. The committee presented recommendations to local government on how to implement affordable housing in Tennessee's wealthiest county.
Projects under John's leadership have won multiple awards, such as the Lauderdale Residence, Germantown Court and "A Fallen Tree," an installation at the Cheekwood Botanical Garden in Nashville, Tennessee which earned the AIA Tennessee's highest honor. Additionally, the Martin Residence in Brentwood, Tennessee, featured in the recently published book, Urban Country.
