Martin Family Residence
Brentwood, Tennessee
Does working with an architect to design a custom-built home suited for your family’s lifestyle require a 7-figure budget and house big enough to roller skate in? Not necessarily, and that is why the Martin’s commissioned DA|AD to build their vision of a traditional, yet modern farmhouse that was made to support their busy life with three kids.
The result was a beautiful 4 bedroom, 3 ½ bath house full of touches designed to make life easier – like individual lockers for each family member in the mud room. Downstairs, the living room, dining room, and kitchen are open to one another, yet have distinct areas, not just one big space. The screened porch and living room have wood burning fireplaces for year-round enjoyment, and a multi-purpose “away” room serves as a place for quiet activities. The living room connects to a second floor playroom with an open rail stair and unique interior windows on the landing. Two of the second floor bedrooms share a bathroom that has a loft space over the bath connecting the bedrooms. The third floor observation area has doubled as a guest room since the owners have moved in.
