The Bancroft Residence

A 3.1 acre wooded site in Forrest Hills deserves a house which embraces the site, yet provides home owners the comfort and luxury they are used to seeing in this area. DA|AD designed a 10,000 square foot private residence which embodies rustic contemporary elements that embrace its natural setting.
A cast-in-place concrete and steel structure anchor the home on its dynamically steep site. So that homeowners can fully enjoy the site, exterior features include an infinity-edge pool with 40 horizontal feet of gentle waterfall, multiple private balconies, intimate outdoor spaces, and an outdoor dining terrace with a custom-built fire pit and a freestanding guesthouse.
The house is 4 bedroom, 5 ½ bath with modern lifestyle amenities like a library, office, and home theater. 150 year-old reclaimed timbers were used in several rooms. The central hall tower features 28' ceilings and a floating staircase and balcony. For entertaining there is also a commercial-grade kitchen, wine cellar and unique dining space. In support of the active lifestyle the design incorporates a gymnasium and locker room.
