The West | Eastland

Nashville, Tennessee

When starting their first development project, the husband and wife team running Urban Blueprint LLC turned to DA|AD to ensure their vision would turn into a successful reality. Urban Blueprint landed a ˝ acre corner lot in East Nashville, at the corner of West Eastland and McFerrin, a busy intersection not yet touched by the East Nashville renovation boom.

Lead architect John Abernathy designed thirteen 2-story townhouses for the site. They average 1300 square feet and are 2-bedroom, 2 ˝ bath. Parking is located behind the units, accessed from an alley and is secured with a fence and gate at the driveway.

While the units exhibit modern style with shed roof “dormers” as the distinctive element, the tall forms are pulled back from the east and south ends to blend in with the residential neighbors. A more traditional gabled elevation ends each row of townhouses, and wood trellises above masonry planters recreate neighborly front porches in a more modern interpretation.

West Eastland was a finalist in the 2007 Design Excellence Award from Multi-Housing News in the Urban Infill category.
