The tenant requested an open environment with the only enclosed office being the Chief Executive Officer’s. Using translucent plastic curving walls at the entrance to the space simultaneously constrict the entry while expanding the view into the newly renovated warehouse space. A plywood clad wall acts as a dividing element sending visitors into either the staff area or through the space into another tenant office. Refurbished steel sash windows from the warehouse are used in the plywood wall to allow light and views into this area of the office. Each staff member has a partially enclosed space made of four foot wide birch veneer plywood doors set on edge as dividing panels with bent acrylic sheets extending the height of the dividers. The stained concrete floors were sealed using a layered clear coat finish consisting of flat, then semi-gloss, then flat acrylic sealer. Only two doors are in place, each being an offset pivot door; at the Chief Executive Officer’s office, the door is solid core birch veneer plywood with a translucent plastic lite, and the conference room door is solid translucent plastic with a steel bar acting as the pivot. Using off-the-shelf materials allowed the tenant a custom appearance without breaking their budget.
