2700 Belmont Boulevard
Nashville, Tennessee
The landmark commercial neighborhood structures at 2700 Belmont Boulevard were built between 1918 and 1925. There are two buildings on the property that total approximately 7000 square feet of retail space. Over the years, they have served the Belmont/Hillsboro neighborhood as a home for a drug store, a grocery store, a beauty shop, and a drapery shop, in a central location. During the last 25 years, the buildings have been sadly neglected and virtually abandoned.
In 2001, out of town residents inherited the property. They visited Nashville to survey their new inheritance, and immediately put into action an effort to resuscitate the structures and reconnect them to the community. The restoration included reframing all the floors, replacing roofs, replacing all the storefront windows and doors, cleaning and tuck pointing all existing masonry, removing existing concrete sidewalks on the property and replacing with brick, new awnings and extensive exterior lighting. The rear yard of the property has been paved with a pervious concrete material so that no additional runoff is generated and provides parking for the tenants. The building has successfully been reconnected to the neighborhood and has become a favorite meeting place again. New tenants include an art gallery, a home accessories shop, an architect's office, an artist's studio, and a spa/salon. The buildings were recently placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
